VOCATIONAL COUNSELLOR'S REPORTS
Vocational Counsellors (also known as Occupational Rehabilitation or just Rehab Counsellors) are trained and experienced in assisting people who have been out of the work force through injury, disability or other circumstances to find suitable employment, often in a new occupation. Rehab Counsellors often work in conjunction with Workers Compensation schemes in the different States.
When a couple separates, one or other may need to consider what type of employment they may be capable of, now and in the future. A person's ability to earn money is considered a 'financial resource' and may have an effect on the distribution of family assets and future maintenance payments.
A professional examination of the kind of work a person can do (called 'vocational options') may be a very positive experience. Someone who has been out of the work force for some time or who has been doing only part-time or occasional work may be able, with some time and money for retraining, be able to start an interesting and rewarding new career.
For most, life will be different after divorce. It is important to make the best of the available opportunities and to consider the future as a new chapter of life. A realistic appraisal of career options can be an excellent place to start.
The costs and time required for possible training courses, earnings potential of different occupations and an analysis of employment prospects would normally be performed by a Forensic Accountant whose brief report accompanies the Vocational Counsellor's report.
